Corporate Office

This client just happens to be my lovely husband. He moved into a bigger office at work, and it desperately needed help. All it came with with was the desk and some ugly mismatched office chairs. He needed a sitting area, and for it to be more functional in general.

Here are the BEFORE pictures.

Yikes!

Design Board. I wanted to make it masculine, comfortable, and a little rustic.

And here are the AFTER pictures.

We reconfigured his desk so it faces the room instead of the wall. The room has an ambiance of a living room instead of a cold office building.

His one request was that he have the leather couch from Restoration Hardware. It's hard to get more masculine than that! The coffee table and side nesting tables are from High Fashion Home, and the cowhide rug is from Wayfair.

The white chair and pillow are from One Kings Lane, as is the wooden bowl on the table. The curtain rod and rings are from Amazon. I needed to find a 15 foot plus curtain rod, but didn't want anything custom or expensive. The curtains are the cotton curtain from Pottery Barn. Hanging the curtains over the metal posts in the window adds a ton of warmth to the space and covers eye sores.

The aspen tree wooden wall art is also from One Kings Lane. I like how it brings a little Colorado into the room. It is a very peaceful piece of art.

He already had this TCU poster framed, but the glass broke. When I replaced the glass at Michael's, I went ahead and added the purple matting and switched the frame to a leather one. This added a few inches all the way around to make for a better size fit above the couch.

The lamp is from Overstock.com, and is a great find. The leather "A" coasters and frame we already had.

I love how I have him trained to do the down pillow karate chop.

I went to Barnes and Noble for a few coffee table books.

We are still waiting on bookshelves to come in that match his desk, but that won't be for a couple more months due to high demand. I am also going to add a floor plant next to the shelves.

Problem & Solution: Putting a Bed in Front of a Window

The same client that I helped with the bathroom remodel had asked my opinion on where to place her bed in her bedroom since she had a low window on the wall she thought would be best to put the bed.  She was right, it is best to position the bed to face you on the longest wall as you walk into the room, but a window can pose a problem.

So, I suggested adding shutters and then a wall of curtains behind the bed with matching curtains on the tall window on the front of the house.

Here is a beautiful example picture of placing a bed in front of a window and adding the wall of curtains behind it.

Here is another example, but I much prefer extending the curtains behind the bedside tables.

Here is the pretty finished product. There were shutters on the smaller window in the room so it only made sense to add them behind the bed too. The curtains give the room a much softer and finished look. If they want the room to be really dark they can close them, or they can just leave them open all the time and shut the shutters.

We got the fabric from High Fashion Home. She wanted off white, and the tone on tone pattern helps to give them some interest.

Problem solved.

Master Bath Remodel

A client moved into a new house and needed a major bathroom redo. The rest of the house looked great, with an exception of the master bath. She asked me to help with picking out the tile, vanity, mirror, flooring, lighting, tub, etc. Basically anything that involved aesthetics, and I was happy to do so.

Here are the BEFORE pictures. It was pretty dark and dingy with too many small rooms. I don't know why people used to think that putting carpet in a bathroom was a good idea!

Here are the blueprints from the contractor.

Design Board

Here are the AFTER pictures.

Instead of having her contractor build in a vanity, we opted for one that looked more like a piece of furniture. This one is from Pottery Barn. It came with the sinks and carrera marble top. We added baskets on the shelf below for extra storage. The paint color for the bathroom is Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter.

Since the bathroom is pretty large, I wanted to include a rug to soften up the floors. This one is from Wayfair. We continued the engineered hardwood into the bathroom from the master bedroom. Tile is more traditionally used in bathrooms, but the owner really liked the look of wood. A rug will add extra protection from water.

The mirror and two sconces are also from Pottery Barn. I just love sconces in the bathroom. They add extra light, and you can put them on a dimmer to create mood lighting.

The client really wanted a stand alone tub. I don't blame her, they are awesome! We went and looked at Ferguson off Richmond, and while they had some beautiful tubs, they were very expensive. So, we found a tub very similar in dimensions and look on Amazon for a fraction of the price.

We had a custom natural woven shade made to add another texture. She had her shutter company do this one. The chandelier is from Horchow and is adorable!

We went with large rectangular carrera tiles in the shower since the shower is so large and juxtaposed  them with the small carrera hex floor tiles.

What a huge difference!

Vintique Flea Market

There is a new antique market in town and its called Vintique. Vintique is a combination of the words vintage and antique which was very fitting for this smallish market held at Silver Street Studios in the Washington area this past weekend. Silver Street is a newer warehouse area that is rentable for events and such. Its a great venue and they even had food trucks come.

There were about 30 vendors there. I went on Sunday afternoon though, and since the event was all weekend, a lot of stuff seemed picked over. They did have a few really great pieces. Prices varied from good deals to pretty expensive. I didn't find anything, but its worth a trip the next time they have it. Admission is free, but they ask you make a donation to an animal shelter.

Standing at the entrance.

Pretty doors!

I loved this over sized basket tray to hang on a wall or go on an over sized coffee table or island.

I fell in love with this marble top piece. So beautiful!

And, I loved this little chest. It would be so cute as a bedside table or next to a chair in a living room.

I just thought this was a pretty set up with the Louis Philippe mirror and the antique lamps. I love when antique lamps have lucite bases. The combination of antique and modern gets me so excited. Call me a decor nerd.

I am not sure when the next Vintique Market is, but it is worth an hour of your time.
